The “Death” of Bandcamp? Exploring New Alternatives for Hiram Music
We’ve all seen the headlines about the recent changes at Bandcamp following its acquisition by Songtrader, including the wave of layoffs and shifts in direction. As an artist who began using Bandcamp early on—back in 2011 with the Lighten Up Sounds label—I’ve witnessed the platform’s incredible evolution. It grew to become one of the most trusted and artist-driven platforms for selling and streaming digital music. While Bandcamp was never my exclusive focus, I’ve always appreciated the community and the opportunities it offered to independent artists like myself.
With the recent layoffs affecting some of my favorite writers and the uncertain future of Bandcamp, I’ve been reflecting on the best way forward and wondering what an ideal space for artists could look like. I’m not planning to leave Bandcamp anytime soon, but I am open to exploring other platforms as they evolve. Artcore is one such alternative that I want to share with you today.
If you're based in the EU or UK, Artcore could be particularly relevant. This platform provides high-quality audio filesand is designed with DJs and electronic artists in mind. It offers an impressive range of metadata for music discovery, making it a promising option for artists like myself.
Artcore is still relatively new but is continuously improving. It's simple, ethical, and offers a direct way for fans to support me without the middleman. If you're looking for an alternative to Bandcamp, I highly recommend checking it out, and if you're interested in setting up your own artist account, you can use my personal referral link here..
As we navigate these changes in the music industry, it’s important to remain flexible and open to new possibilities. Ninaprotocol is another platform I’ve seen gaining attention, and I’m curious about it too. But let’s be real—there’s only so much time in the day! I also recently tackled a home improvement project and removed a radiator, so there’s that.
Ultimately, these platforms offer more ways for people to hear and experience the music, and that’s what matters most to me.
Take a moment to appreciate where you are right now, stay calm, and as always—thanks for listening.
