Matthew Hiram is an interdisciplinary artist and composer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, known for his innovative approach to eco-acoustic music. His work explores the connection between nature and the human experience, using sound to evoke the fragility of ecosystems and our intricate relationship with the environment.
Through a combination of ambient music, environmental soundscapes, and ecological advocacy, Hiram crafts immersive experiences that celebrate the beauty of the natural world, and highlight the urgent need for preservation.
Rooted in improvisation, experimental composition, and acoustic ecology, Hiram’s projects incorporate site-specific recordings and performances from iconic natural locations like Joshua Tree National Park, the Pacific Northwest coastline, and the Mississippi River. His works capture the essence of nature while offering meditative reflections on the human spirit and our collective responsibility to protect our planet.
Matthew Hiram is a certified Minnesota Water Steward, and has created commissioned sound works for organizations like Freshwater Society, Hennepin County Environment & Energy, and Walker Art Center.
Hiram’s expanding discography continues to explore ecological themes, weaving his unique personal narrative with innovative sound design. His latest album, Green Green Earth, released in early 2025, marks a new chapter in his continuing exploration of nature’s influence on human consciousness.
