About the Album
"Immersion" is a long-form sound work composed over the Summer of 2022, designed to be experienced as a live outdoor performance of eco-music and environmental sound.
The piece is the culmination of a collaboration with the Art for Water initiative, where Hiram, working toward certification as a MN Water Steward, contributes to public conservation outreach through creative, sound-based experiences. The focus of the work is to foster personal connections to water and the natural environment by creating shared, site-specific public art in beautiful outdoor spaces.
Drawing from field recordings and underwater sounds captured at Wood Lake Nature Center and the Minnehaha Watershed, Hiram’s composition weaves wooden flutes, brass bowls, woodwinds, analog synthesizers, natural sounds, magnetic tape, and electronic processing to tell the timeless journey of water—from liquid to vapor, from the skies to our homes.
The live performance, captured in real-time on August 13th, 2022, was designed to resonate harmoniously with its surrounding environment. Key elements of the work include hydrophone recordings of the very waters of Wood Lake, creating a deeper connection between the music and the natural world.
"Immersion" is a sonic experience that transports the listener through the elemental rhythms of water, inviting reflection on our relationship with this vital force.
“Organic resonance covers all the sonic surfaces of Immersion, bringing our attention to bear on the terrestrial plane and inward… Fantastic.”
